Mountaintop Engagement Session in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Brandon and Nicole | June 2018 | Max Patch Mountain Engagement Session

Like many people, I love a good summer thunderstorm. I spent many days in my youth sitting on the west-facing front porch of the country home we lived in watching storms roll in with my stepdad. Between claps of thunder, we’d wait for the lighting to flash across the sky while my dad would count how many frogs he could hear in the pond across the street. Anytime I see the dark blue heavy clouds roll in I am transported to those days, just sitting and waiting. Summer drums up nostalgia for many reasons, but thunderstorms almost take the cake for me.

It was a very hot and perfect summer day when I met Brandon and Nicole at Max Patch for their engagement session. We rolled around in the grass laughing and having fun. We watched a thunderstorm appear near the end of our session. We hung around on top of the bald mountain for way too long waiting to get a shot with some lighting in the distance. It didn’t happen but what did happen was the sky became consumed with the dark hues of a thunderstorm. We raced the encroaching thunderhead down the mountain as fast as we could once we realized it was getting too close for comfort. We laughed the whole way down and felt thoroughly satisfied with our adventure.
